DO FOLLOW Blogs! Get some backlinks with JUICE!
DO FOLLOW BLOGS! Get some backlinks with JUICE by commenting in these blogs!
I have a quick little article about “dofollow†and “nofollow†and info for you on how I have set up a few of my blogs so that you can get some link juice when you stop by them and comment! Links at the bottom >>>
This blog – IM PROMOTE is a “dofollow” blog – so feel free to comment and include a link! You’ll gain all the benefits of a standard link as we have diasabled “nofollow” in this blog!
Blogs are great! People love them! Google loves them! Spammers love them!
Yup… it’s unfortunate, but spammers love blogs so much that they have found numerous ways to ruin it for us good mannered folks, who used to be able to get high quality backlinks by commenting on posts in blogs.
Now known as comment spam – it’s a way that bloggers spread around their garbage and they do it by mass attacking our blogs with phony comments filled with text links.
It has driven many blog owners to turn off comments or at the least moderate them.
Plugins like Akismet for Wordpress help keep a lot of the spam out, but some of them still get through.
Not too long ago Google took a vocal position on comment spam and pretty much threw it’s weight around and demanded that Wordpress and other blogging platforms adopt a new policy to get rid of comment spam and help enforce the web with Google’s “nofollow†tag.
The tag basically tells Google NOT to follow the links or at the very least not to recognize them as high quality links. Who knows what else the search engines do when they see these nofollow links. That’s a whole other discussion.
In any event, Wordpress did adopt the “no follow†tags and if you have a recent version of Wordpress installed it is hard wired into the code to make all of the links in the comments contain the no follow tag.
A while back I found the code and disabled it (not easy) but sure enough when I upgraded my Wordpress the “no follow†tags came back (oops!).
But now I have found a solution and it is so simple. It’s a cool free Wordpress plugin called DoFollow 4.0 and you can get it here:
http://www.mikeliebner.com/linking/free-dofollow-plugin-wordpress/
It’s so simple all you do is copy the plug-in, a .php file, and drop it in your WP blogs plugin folder – upload it – turn it on and BOOM – now all the links properly pass their juice.
This is important because NOW you guys and all visitors have a good reason to visit my blogs and read the posts and comment! When you do – the links in your NAME and also the links in the post will pass the juice and they will help you get top rankings!
In fact there are actually programs and lists out there that compile addresses of “do follow†blogs – only problem is – many of the lists are out of date – because all it takes is an upgrade to WP and many of them go back to “nofollowâ€.
So… I decided to install the “dofollow†plugin on a bunch of my blogs and I will list them here – that way you can visit them – read some posts – and leave tasteful NON spam comments including some of your links :’>
Stop by and get a few do follow links! Here are my ‘dofollow†blogs:

If you have a Firefox extension called x you can see whether links are “nofollow” as they will have a dotted line around them. The links here are dofollow so they will pass the juice! So link away as long as the comments are genuine and not spa*mm! link: http://www.mikeliebner.com/internet-marketing/duplicate-content/

oops x should be SaerchStatus – firefox addon

Excellent information. I thank you.
I had a blog up for a while and took it down and am now putting it back up. I did not know that upgrading caused the nofollow to reinvent itself.
I will be installing the plugin.
There is one program out on the in the internet that you have to pay for and it does have some good information for the cost of the program. It tells bloggers to set up multiple blogs and then link them together so that they gain immediate backlinks, but it never mentions that linking through posts will not work.
So, this is good information and should be made better known to other internet marketing bloggers.
If you are diligent about moderating your blog then you can keep the marketer spammers at bay, otherwise you might just as well turn off the comments altogether and have your blog as an information only station. These types of blogs are usually only for ad revenue or affiliate sales revenue anyway so why even bother having the ability for a comment to be posted by an outsider.
This is good to know, and again, thank you.

Excellent information Mike. And here’s another easy way to get a link back to your site. Just take a few minutes and create a Google Profile. There is a section in the profile for your websites and the links are NOT “no follow”. The profile also gets you on the first page of Google immediately for your name! You can read more about this strategy on my Kinetic Wealth blog.
Enjoy,
Karen Sielski

Well said Rod. Its disgraceful that some coders who maybe think they are doing something smart and beneficial, have caused this to be the default setting in WP.
The default setting should be dofollow and you just change it if desired not the other way around.
Am I correct in saying that the blogroll and sidebar links are dofollow normally, but comments are nofollow normally when first installed? I believe that’s how it works but if someone could confirm that it would be nice.

I use SEOQuake as well. You can’t beat it for pure simplicity and to see if links on a page are “do follow” or “no follow”.

Thanks for this very informative post.. backlinks are important but in building them you must have a discipline. Spamming is not a good way, and you’re only annoying the blog owner if you post nonesense things. Thanks for this post, i’ve sure learned a lot!

Tried to load the plugin, but had to upgrade my wordpress platform before it would guarantee the results. Guess that was a good thing! Am working with it now though…
Thanks!

Hi Mike,
That is very helpful. Thanks for opening up your blogs. Can you share some insights with me … as a blog owner, is it useful for me to have people posting comments with links to my sites.
I have many sites, such as Successful Marketing Campaigns which have blog commenting off.
Do you think it would do me any good to turn it on?
Thanks!
Emily

his is good info and explains some things that I questioned. Just curious…does frequent commenting make a blog more favorable in Google’s eyes?
